Florida Dream Documentary DVD
Produced by the Florida Humanities Council and
WEDU-TV of Tampa, this one-hour documentary explores how millions of people from
across the United States and around the globe migrated here in search of the
Florida dream. Looking for their own piece of paradise, they transformed an
exotic, sparsely populated, subtropical peninsula into America’s fourth-largest
state. Using archival film, historical photographs, and interviews with scholars
and folks who lived the history, the documentary traces how migration,
immigration, civil rights, tourism, retirement, technology, and politics changed
the face of Florida. The documentary was inspired by Land of Sunshine, State
of Dreams: A Social History of Modern Florida, written by historian Dr. Gary
Mormino. Narrated by actor Ed Asner.
