The “Florida Dream” Set
Set includes one-hour documentary DVD, “The Florida Dream”, produced by the Florida
Humanities Council and WEDU-TV of Tampa and the book which inspired it, Land of Sunshine, State of Dreams: A Social History of Modern Florida written by historian Dr. Gary Mormino. The book and documentary explore how millions of
people from across the United States and around the globe migrated here in
search of the Florida dream. Looking for their own piece of paradise, they
transformed an exotic, sparsely populated, subtropical peninsula into America’s
fourth-largest state. Using archival film, historical photographs, and
interviews with scholars and folks who lived the history, the documentary traces
how migration, immigration, civil rights, tourism, retirement, technology, and
politics changed the face of Florida.
